As part of .NET Framework 2.0, developers have access to the System.Configuration library, a powerful framework used to safe application and user-specific settings. Its’ capability may not be apparent at first sight. In his session, Michael Fischer presents a preliminary overview of the configuration of .NET 2.0 programs based on an example application and explains the support of Visual Studio 2005 for the configuration namespace.

Details about the content

The configuration of applications is as old as software development itself and saving them is subject to a multitude of modes. They range from hard coded settings, the legendary INI files and the (rightly) unpopular registry via entries in SQL tables to the latest fab: XML files.

In this DevFest session you will learn about simple configuration settings for the complete program, local or roaming user settings and persistent configuration objects and familiarise yourself with configurable dynamic properties in the form editor of Visual Studio.

The conference

Devfest is the largest english-speaking conference dealing with the Xbase programming languages Visual Objects and Vulcan.NET.
